Great Projects Begin With Sound Foundations

As the Solutions Architect at Achieve Internet, theres nothing that that quite gets my mind going like the documentation process. While often overlooked or just considered a necessary obligation, project documentation can play a crucial in a project's success. Documentation should be much more than the training manual that no one has time to create before a site launches, it should serve site of collaboration and play an important role at every stage of a project’s lifecycle. Whenever I'm performing a project discovery, my work is never finished until I have created the following documents:

  • Business Requirements
  • User Personas
  • Information Architecture
  • Wireframes
  • Design Concepts
  • Systems Requirements
  • Development Plan

I will be hosting a session at Drupal Camp LA 2014 which will examine each function of the mentioned documents. The session will encourage attendees to reflect on the role of documentation and describe a process-oriented approach to performing project discoveries. It will consider how project documentation can function as a living archive, helping keep your team and project stakeholders on the same page and helping ensure your project's success.
